Grok Build + invideo

Grok Build is xAI's CLI-first coding agent. It runs subagents in parallel and connects to MCP servers. Paired with invideo, Grok Build can create projects, generate shots, edit the timeline and export videos without leaving the terminal.

Quick start

  1. 1

    Install Grok Build

Install the Grok Build CLI and sign in

    curl -fsSL https://x.ai/cli/install.sh | bash
  2. 2

    Install the invideo CLI

Needs Node.js. To run it without installing, use npx invideo@latest

    npm install -g invideo
  3. 3

    Sign in to invideo

Opens your browser. Approve it with your invideo account

    invideo auth login
  4. 4

    Make a launch video

Start Grok Build in the folder with your footage and ask. It runs invideo commands, and each answer links to the edit in invideo Editor

Read https://github.com/invideoio/cli/blob/main/AGENTS.md, then use the invideo CLI to make a 30-second launch video with music and on-screen text
  5. 5

    Or add the MCP server

Instead of the CLI, add invideo's MCP server. Grok Build opens your browser to sign in on first use

grok mcp add --transport http invideo https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp

Example prompts

  • “Turn the quotes in launch-posts.md into a 20-second video with each quote on screen”

  • “Find an upbeat stock track and fade it in under the first 10 seconds”

  • “Punch in 10% on every other cut in the interview to hide the jump cuts”

  • “Add captions from subtitles.srt and keep them above the lower third”

  • “Cut the launch video down to a 15-second ad that ends on the logo”

  • “Add an end card that shows our website”

  • “Make a product demo from the recordings in ./demo with a generated voiceover”

  • “Turn the thread in thread.md into a 9:16 video with stock footage”

  • “Make a 30-second recap from the photos in ./launch with slow zooms and music”

  • “Write a script from this README, then make a 60-second explainer with a generated voiceover and music”

invideo Skills

invideo Skills extend Grok Build with invideo-specific commands for making, editing, and exporting your videos.

Install invideo Skills

curl -fsSL invideo.io/skills.sh | bash

or

npx skills add invideo/invideo-skills

Common workflows

  1. 1Make a video

    • Ask Grok Build to make the video in invideo
    • It creates a project and builds the cut on the timeline
    • Approve invideo's tool calls as they come up
    • Grok Build reports the project link and status
  2. 2Generate the shots

    • Ask Grok Build to generate the missing shots with invideo
    • It picks a model for each shot and generates it
    • It places them on the timeline in order
    • It grabs frames from the timeline to check the cut
  3. 3Parallel versions

    • Ask Grok Build for a vertical and a widescreen cut
    • It fans out a subagent per version, each on its own copy of the timeline
    • Each subagent exports its version from invideo
    • Grok Build reports both exports when done
  4. 4Bring in your footage

    • Point Grok Build at the folder with your clips
    • It uploads each file to your invideo project
    • It lays the clips on a new timeline in your order
    • It grabs a frame at each cut to check the edit

Tips for success

  • Approve invideo's tool calls when Grok Build asks
  • Use subagents to make several versions in parallel
  • Open /mcps to check invideo is on or sign in again

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the invideo CLI or the MCP server?

Either works, on the same invideo timeline. With the CLI, Grok Build runs invideo commands in your terminal, follows the rules in the CLI's AGENTS.md and saves exports and frames straight to disk. The MCP server gives Grok Build invideo's tools inside its session, with nothing to install.

How do I make videos in invideo with Grok Build?

Ask Grok Build to make a video in invideo. It builds the cut on an invideo timeline and reports the project link. Approve invideo's tool calls when it asks.

How do I connect Grok Build to invideo?

Yes. Use the invideo CLI (npm install -g invideo, then invideo auth login) or add the MCP server with grok mcp add --transport http invideo https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp. Either way it can open projects, read the timeline and export videos.

Troubleshooting
