Hermes + invideo

Hermes Agent is Nous Research's open-source AI agent. It runs in your terminal and in the chat apps you already use, and it remembers what it learns across sessions. Connected to invideo, Hermes makes your videos on a timeline in invideo Editor and sends the link back to the terminal or chat you asked from.

Quick start

  1. 1

    Install Hermes Agent

Run the installer on Linux, macOS or WSL2

    curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash
  2. 2

    Install the invideo CLI

Needs Node.js. To run it without installing, use npx invideo@latest

    npm install -g invideo
  3. 3

    Sign in to invideo

Opens your browser. Approve it with your invideo account

    invideo auth login
  4. 4

    Make a video

Ask from your terminal or any chat Hermes is in. It runs invideo commands and sends you the editor link

Read https://github.com/invideoio/cli/blob/main/AGENTS.md, then use the invideo CLI to make a 30-second launch video with a voiceover and music
  5. 5

    Or add the MCP server

Instead of the CLI, add invideo's MCP server and turn on all its tools, then run /reload-mcp

hermes mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --auth oauth

Tips for success

  • Turn on all of invideo's tools when you add the server. Change them later with hermes mcp configure invideo
  • Run /reload-mcp after adding the server so the tools load without a restart
  • Keep the project open in your browser to watch each edit as it happens

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the invideo CLI or the MCP server?

Either works, on the same invideo timeline. With the CLI, Hermes runs invideo commands in your terminal, follows the rules in the CLI's AGENTS.md and saves exports and frames straight to disk. The MCP server gives Hermes invideo's tools inside its session, with nothing to install.

How do I give Hermes access to invideo?

Install the invideo CLI with npm install -g invideo and run invideo auth login. Or add the MCP server with hermes mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --auth oauth. It opens your browser to sign in with your invideo account, then asks which tools to turn on. Turn them all on, then run /reload-mcp or start a new session.

Can I ask for edits from a chat app?

Yes. Add invideo and sign in from the terminal first. Hermes' messaging gateway uses the same config, so invideo's tools are there in every chat Hermes is connected to.

Do I need an invideo account?

Yes. You sign in with an invideo account when you connect, and you can create one during sign-in.
