OpenClaw + invideo

OpenClaw is an open-source AI assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the chat apps you already use. Install the invideo CLI, or add invideo's MCP server, and you can ask for an edit from any of those chats. OpenClaw makes it on a timeline in invideo Editor and sends you the link.

Quick start

  1. 1

    Install OpenClaw

Run the installer on macOS, Linux or WSL2. It sets up Node.js if needed and starts onboarding

    curl -fsSL https://openclaw.ai/install.sh | bash
  2. 2

    Install the invideo CLI

Needs Node.js. To run it without installing, use npx invideo@latest

    npm install -g invideo
  3. 3

    Sign in to invideo

Opens your browser. Approve it with your invideo account

    invideo auth login
  4. 4

    Make a video

Ask from any chat OpenClaw is in. It runs invideo commands on your computer and sends you the editor link

Read https://github.com/invideoio/cli/blob/main/AGENTS.md, then use the invideo CLI to make a 30-second launch video with a voiceover and music
  5. 5

    Or add the MCP server

Instead of the CLI, stop the Gateway, add invideo's MCP server, run openclaw mcp login invideo to sign in, then start the Gateway again

openclaw mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth

Common workflows

  1. 1Edit from a chat

    • Message OpenClaw the video you want
    • OpenClaw starts a project in invideo Editor and sends you the link
    • Open the link to watch each edit land on the timeline
    • Reply in the same chat to change anything
  2. 2Connect for the first time

    • Stop the Gateway with openclaw gateway stop, then run openclaw mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth
    • Run openclaw mcp login invideo and approve the link with your invideo account
    • Start the Gateway again with openclaw gateway start
    • Check it with openclaw mcp status --verbose
  3. 3Take over the edit

    • Ask OpenClaw for a first cut
    • Open the project link in your browser
    • Fix a cut by hand while OpenClaw keeps working
    • Ask OpenClaw for the next change
  4. 4Hand off to your NLE

    • Ask OpenClaw to export the project for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
    • OpenClaw exports it with the media and downloads it for you
    • Open the project in your editor and keep cutting

Tips for success

  • Run openclaw mcp login invideo before your first request. Until you sign in, OpenClaw leaves invideo's tools out
  • Run openclaw mcp status --verbose to see what OpenClaw has saved
  • Keep the project open in your browser to watch each edit as it happens

Frequently asked questions

Should I use the invideo CLI or the MCP server?

Either works, on the same invideo timeline. With the CLI, OpenClaw runs invideo commands in your terminal, follows the rules in the CLI's AGENTS.md and saves exports and frames straight to disk. The MCP server gives OpenClaw invideo's tools inside its session, with nothing to install.

How do I give OpenClaw access to invideo?

Install the CLI with npm install -g invideo and run invideo auth login. Or add invideo's MCP server with openclaw mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth, then run openclaw mcp login invideo and approve the link it prints with your invideo account. No API key needed.

Do I need an invideo account?

Yes. You sign in with an invideo account when you connect, and you can create one during sign-in.

Can I edit while OpenClaw is working?

Yes. You and OpenClaw work in the same editor. You see each edit as it happens, and you can make your own edits at any time.

Troubleshooting

Issue:OpenClaw doesn't use invideo's tools

Solution:OpenClaw leaves a server out until it has credentials. Run openclaw mcp login invideo, approve the link, then ask again.

Issue:invideo isn't in OpenClaw's server list

Solution:Run openclaw mcp list. If invideo is missing, stop the Gateway and add it again with openclaw mcp add invideo --url https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth.
