Use a quieter moment when you want viewers to focus, anticipate something or feel a change in the scene. A pause before a reveal can give the following sound more impact. Removing music beneath a line can make the words feel more exposed.
Silence does not always mean removing every sound. You might keep faint room tone, breathing or distant ambience while taking away the music and added effects. That can preserve the sense of a real place while changing the mood.
