Why does my video still feel flat after I add background music?

Music can set the mood while leaving individual actions and locations feeling disconnected from the picture. If an object lands silently or a busy street has no atmosphere, the track may be doing all the emotional work on its own.
Start with the moments that need weight, texture or a sense of place. Add a few purposeful sounds and listen again with the music. More effects will not automatically improve the video; sometimes the music is too loud or leaves too little space for other sounds.
