Introducing Slate - invideo Agent Two

Invideo today introduced Slate: a full editor inside Agent Two, run the way a director runs an edit suite. Direct the agent to line up your approved shots and it builds the sequence on its own. Talk through the changes and it makes them. The timeline, the tools, and the shortcuts editors already live in are all here; what is gone is the hours of sitting on precision work.

Slate works because of everything the project already knows. By the time a filmmaker reaches the edit, Agent Two is holding the script, the shot breakdowns, and the takes that were approved, all in Context. There is no briefing the editor. Call for a lineup and the lineup appears, built from the approved takes in the order the script demands. That makes Slate the fastest way to check a film mid-project: whether the narrative is landing the way it was planned, whether the coverage is actually there. Three days into an edit is a bad time to discover a missing establishing shot. With Slate, the filmmaker pulls the lineup at any point, sees the gap, and directs the agent to create the shot, or to drop the take that looked great standalone and clunky in sequence.

Under the direction sits a working editor’s toolkit:

The tools editors expect. Blade, transform, audio levels, LUTs, color controls, transitions, and text supers. A source monitor for frame-by-frame work. Asset bins for pulling a specific asset or swapping a take. Four audio layers and effectively unlimited video layers.

Your shortcuts, not ours. Editors coming from Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve switch Slate to their shortcut set in one setting, and every keystroke they have spent years learning carries over. We know how important shortcuts are to editors. This was a no-brainer.

External assets, placed by the agent. Not everything in a film is generated. Import the product window that runs across every film in a campaign, and the agent reads the scripts and slots it in where it belongs, in each one. Import a jingle and the agent knows where it goes. Drag in a brand’s font file and every super in every edit uses exactly that font.

Conversational precision. The register of Slate is the register of an edit suite: the filmmaker stands behind the editor and says what needs to change. Say the edit is running long, and call for three shorter versions of the cut; the agent puts them together. Drop markers across the timeline, tell the agent what each marker means, and it runs the set: pull the music down here, make these shots warmer, fix this transition. The notes a director gives an editor are now direction the agent executes.

“I have been editing my own projects for years, so this is the one I was excited about,” said Nishant T, Chief Creative Technologist, invideo. “The agent already knows your script, your shot breakdowns, and the takes you approved. You say show me a lineup, and it just makes the lineup. Then you are doing what a director actually does in an edit: checking whether the narrative works, catching the shot that looked great standalone and clunky in sequence, and saying what to change.” Every generation carries an edit next to it. Open the image, annotate directly on it, or select a region and direct the change: outline the element that should not be there, say remove it, and it is gone.

Slate completes the loop the earlier releases opened: Context holds what the project knows, the crew builds the shots, the Notebook is where the filmmaker’s hands go on a single generation, and Slate is where the film comes together, under direction, with nothing re-explained.

Slate is live now for all Agent Two users at invideo.io.
