AI background swap vs green screen: which is better for video editing?

AI background swap is better when the footage already exists or a reshoot is impractical — it replaces the environment in post while preserving the subject's edges. Green screen is better for planned, controlled shoots where you need frame-accurate keys at your camera's full resolution. The deciding factors are setup, edge quality, resolution ceiling, and what else the AI pass can fix.
Choose based on when you can control the shot: green screen decides the composite at capture time, AI swap decides it at edit time — and that single difference drives everything else in the comparison.
Setup. Green screen requires a physical backdrop, even lighting across it, and separation between subject and screen to avoid spill — all before you press record.
