Why does testing more ad creative variants lower your cost per acquisition?

Testing more ad creative variants lowers CPA through two compounding mechanisms: probability and auction economics. Ad performance is outlier-driven — a 50-variant test surfaces winners a 5-variant test statistically misses — and platforms reward high-engagement creative with cheaper delivery. At 3 cents per AI-generated image, running 50 variants costs less than a coffee.

The first mechanism is probability. Creative performance follows an outlier distribution: most variants perform near average, and a small number dramatically outperform. When you test 5 concepts, the odds that one of them is a true outlier are low; when you test 50, you are sampling the distribution widely enough to reliably find one. What changed the economics is generation cost.
