The strongest subject-background separation comes from prompts that explicitly name a hard key light from one side plus a rim/kicker on the opposite edge, with the background pushed into shadow or soft falloff. Editorial language like "single hard warm key, side-raked, skin rim-lit, environment falling into shadow" outperforms generic "studio lighting" prompts every time.

Write lighting as a director would brief a DOP: name the key, name the rim, state where shadows fall, and describe what the background does. Generic "good lighting" prompts blend into mush; craft-specific language holds.
