How do you make transitions between AI-generated and real footage feel seamless?

Seamless AI-to-practical cuts come from matching at generation time and unifying in post. Seven methods:

Reference frames from your own shoot. Upload screenshots or stills from your practical footage into the invideo agent before generating anything, so color, contrast, and look are anchored to the material you're cutting against — models like Seedance 2.0 hold that reference through the generation. For a direct cut, use the last frame of your practical clip as the visual starting point for the AI generation, so the seam lands on two near-identical images. Once the look is established on one shot, later shots in the scene match faster: in one production, the second shot in a scene came back correct on the very first generation.

Build the AI world outward from your locked practical shot. Treat the practical clip as the anchor and ask the invideo agent to generate wide environment shots that place the same action in a larger world. One production shot an emergence-from-water scene in a 6x6 ft studio pool — too small to hide the set edges, with an actor who could tread water for only one to two minutes — then generated wide ocean and shoreline footage around it so the cut reads as one continuous location.

Cut on story continuity, not visual impressiveness. Pick the AI shot whose geography and action continue the practical shot: if your real footage shows a character on hands and knees coming out of water, the matching AI shot is a shoreline wide of that same action — not the most spectacular environment available. A transition feels earned when the two shots read as one scene progressing.

Keep AI on wide shots, cut to practical for close-ups. Pushing in on an AI-generated character doing any real acting is where footage reads fake, so pull out rather than push in: let AI carry establishing wides and environments, and reserve close-up performance for your camera. This division alone hides most of the seam.

Match atmosphere across the seam. Carry environmental cues — haze, light quality, weather — from one side of the cut to the other, and specify them in the prompt: an exterior AI shot with haze cutting to a clean practical interior breaks the illusion, while matched haze makes the transition believable.

Grade and sound-design both sides together. Apply one color grade across AI and practical footage in your edit so neither side carries a different palette, then let sound design bridge the cut — a continuous soundscape is the multiplier that makes AI-generated inserts feel physically real rather than pasted in.

Speed-ramp AI inserts that read fake at normal speed. AI footage that looks obviously artificial in real time can still work as an insert or cutaway: raise playback speed to 1,000%, 2,000%, even 5,000% in your editor and cut the fragments into a fast, energetic sequence — one production salvaged AI-generated energy footage exactly this way.
