What speed percentage should you use to speed ramp AI-generated footage in Premiere Pro?

Use extreme speeds — 1,000% to 5,000% — not the 200–400% of a typical speed ramp. In one documented production, AI-generated energy clips that looked fake at normal speed were ramped to 1,000%, 2,000%, and sometimes 5,000% in Premiere Pro, cut into fragments, and spliced into a usable high-energy insert sequence.

Start at 1,000% and push higher until the artificial motion stops registering as motion and reads as raw energy — the documented range is 1,000% on most clips, 2,000% on faster ones, and 5,000% on the most static generations. The filmmaker who documented this described it directly: "I actually took this into Premiere Pro and I raised the speed by 1,000, 2,000, sometimes 5,000% on some of these clips."

Why these percentages work. AI footage that looks obviously CGI at normal speed fails on texture and physics — the eye has time to catch unnatural detail. At 1,000%+ a 10-second generation compresses to a second or less, so the clip becomes a burst of light and movement rather than an inspectable image. That is why this range works for salvage where a conventional 200–1,000% ramp would still leave the artifacts visible.

How to set it in Premiere Pro. Right-click the clip, open Speed/Duration, and type the percentage directly — 1,000, 2,000, or 5,000. Then cut the ramped clip into short fragments, keep only the frames with the most energy, and splice several fragments back to back into a chaotic sequence. Use the result as inserts and cutaways between your practical shots, not as sustained hero shots — the technique buys you seconds of usable footage, not full scenes.

Avoiding dropped frames at these speeds. At 1,000%+ Premiere is sampling only a fraction of the source frames, so playback can stutter or drop frames — editors report exactly this on Adobe's own forums. Pre-render the ramped section (or work from proxies) before judging it, and skip Optical Flow interpolation: it's built for slow motion, and the strobing, aggressive feel of frame sampling is the point here.

Finishing the sequence. First-generation AI output is rarely final, so pull the best moments from multiple imperfect generations and splice them together rather than ramping one clip and hoping. Then color grade the fragments (Lumetri Color) to match your surrounding footage, and layer sound design — in the documented workflow, sound design was the multiplier that made the ramped AI inserts feel violent and real rather than like sped-up filler.
